Thurston Benson, 85, died Dec. 17, 1999, after a long illness.
Born and raised in Boston, he obtained a law degree from Suffolk University. He served with U.S. armed forces in Italy during World War II and then in Austria. He later became an investigator for the U.S. government and lived in Palo Alto for 44 years.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the Palo Alto Masonic Roller Lodge No. 346 and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Benson of Palo Alto; his brother, Richard Benson of Marston Mills, Mass.; and three sons, Robert Benson of Lafayette, Richard Benson of Bend, Ore., and William Benson of Palo Alto.
