Paul Weiss, a retired Chevrolet dealer from Palo Alto, died Aug. 25 while vacationing in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was 90.
The cause of death was heart failure.
Paul Edward Weiss was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, to Morton and Edna Weiss. A graduate of the University of Chicago Laboratories High School, he enlisted in the U.S Navy at age 18. He spent the war on a Landing Craft Infantry Flotilla Flagship (LC-FF) in the Pacific, earning five distinctions, including a Bronze Service Star, as radar man second class.
He attended University of Chicago on the G. I. Bill and earned a degree in business. After a short stint as a door-to-door salesman, he joined an agency in Chicago that was co-founded by his father and two others, Midway Chevrolet.
He married Barbara in 1953 and they had three children. In 1968 as General Motors foresaw the growth of that market, Paul moved his family west and started a Chevrolet franchise in Cupertino, California. Paul ran Key Chevrolet for 20 years before selling the business and retiring.
During his retirement years, Paul and Barbara enjoyed travel and their involvement in various causes and activities. He was active in Cupertino Rotary, for more than 40 years, as a Paul Harris Fellow and as recently as 2011 traveled to Mexico with the group to provide wheelchairs to the needing.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, of Palo Alto; his daughter, Linda (Mark) of San Carlos; sons, Richard (wife Nancy) of Los Altos Hills and Mark (Terry) of Palo Alto; and two grandsons, Jon and Aaron Lipinski. He leaves his sister, Barbara Blumfield of Sarasota, Florida; and several cousins, including Mark Levi of Los Altos and Victor Levi of San Rafael.
