Diana Mary Beuttler

Born in La Cumbre, Argentina, to Idina and John Pearson, sister to Roy, Diana, also known as “Dickie” to her large international family, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of March 12, 2024, one day before her 97th birthday. Diana is survived by her children, Jeremy and Cynthia, her daughter-in-law Andrea, step-grandson Joshua Tendler along with nieces and nephews too numerous to count.

Diana attended college at The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College in London where she received her degree in architecture and interior design. After graduation, on a visit home, she met her husband, Robert “Bob” Beuttler. After a six month courtship, Diana and Bob married in La Cumbre and then traveled to England where they lived for two years. In 1954, they returned to Bob’s hometown of San Francisco, California. They later moved to Palo Alto, Burlingame, and eventually, in 1968, settled into what would be their life-long home in Felton Gables, Menlo Park.

Diana was an accomplished homemaker and an extraordinary seamstress who used her talent in that area to teach others to sew, to make her own clothes, and to decorate her home. She enjoyed classical music concerts, plays, and the ballet, and served several years on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Symphony Foundation. She loved to travel as well, and returned to Argentina and England to visit her large extended family whenever she could.

Later in life, Diana began to study watercolor painting and eventually became an exceptional and prolific artist in that medium. She became a member of the Menlo Art League and participated in shows in which she often won high awards for her paintings and sold many of them. She also had her work displayed and sold in several different locations, including the Filoli Estate in Woodside, which was one of her favorite places to visit and paint.

Aside from painting, Diana remained very active, participating in book clubs and birthday clubs with neighbors, hosting tea parties on Sunday afternoons, shopping on Saturday mornings at the Farmers Market in Palo Alto, and driving herself everywhere into her early 90’s. She was also very well known in her neighborhood for her regular afternoon walks when she often met and chatted with her neighbors.

Diana remained in her home until, after a series of falls, her children convinced her to move to an assisted living facility near her son in Huntington Beach in March of 2022. She lived there quite happily, making friends, participating in activities and going out to dinner regularly with her son and daughter-in-law.
