Carl Frederick Darling
March 17, 1951-July 15, 2025
Palo Alto, California
Carl Frederick Darling went to be with the Lord on July 15th at the age of 74. Carl was born in Redwood City, California, the son of Johanna and Frederick Darling. He cherished his childhood in Redwood City, where he enjoyed playing sports with his brother, Kevin, and spending time with neighborhood friends. He married D’Ann See in 1980, and they settled in Redwood City to raise their family before eventually moving to Palo Alto. After two decades as an engineer for Bechtel Corporation, Carl continued his distinguished career as a Senior Engineer, contributing his expertise to companies such as Chiron Corporation, Intarcia Therapeutics, Hyde Engineering and Consultants, and Genentech. A devoted and active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Redwood City and later Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto, Carl also served his community through leadership roles with the Sierra Club Ollie Mayer Hiker's Hut and Palo Alto’s Community Emergency Response Team. He loved talking with people, watching Oakland A’s games, taking his dogs to the dog park, and gardening in his yard.
Even as Parkinson's disease limited his mobility and speech in recent years, Carl's unwavering faith remained a guiding light. He was preceded in death by his wife, D’Ann, who passed away in 2022.
Carl is survived by his son Eric, daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Geoffrey, and grandsons David, Daniel and Aiden. He was a dear friend to many. He will be missed.
