Willard Samuel Armstrong Jr., 77, a longtime resident of Palo Alto, died Feb. 9, 2007.

He was born Nov. 14, 1929, in Pryor Creek, Okla. He attended Douglas Elementary School and Chetopa High School in Chetopa, Kan. He was the valedictorian of his high-school class. He received his bachelor?s degree in Business Administration from San Francisco State University and his law degree from Lincoln Law School.

While stationed on the island of Okinawa, Japan, he earned the rank of sergeant in the United States Air Force. He married Rosa Mae Christy in 1958 and they had one daughter, Anna Marie Armstrong. He worked as a claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance Company for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nancy Irene Armstrong Martin; and his brother, Ivan Delano Armstrong Sr. He is survived by his daughter, Anna Marie Armstrong, and her mother, Rosa Christy Armstrong, both of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Faye Armstrong Bassett of East Palo Alto, Calif., and Frances Armstrong Lax Wooten of Bartlesville, Okla.; and many other relatives and friends.
