Lasting Memories

Nancy Badger
Aug. 3, 1928-May 28, 2012
Portola Valley, United States

Nancy passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, May 28, 2012, after contracting pneumonia following surgery.

Born in San Francisco, Nancy was the only child of Forest and Mildred Naylor. Nancy Marie grew up in Crocker Highlands and attended Piedmont High School in the Oakland Hills. She attended Stanford University, graduating in 1950 with a degree in South American Relations, and a minor in Spanish. After graduation, she took a grand tour of Europe with college friends.

Nancy's first marriage was to Richard Waddell of New York, in 1951. They had one daughter, Deborah, before divorcing in 1956.

Nancy remarried in 1958 to George Badger, a graduate of U.C. Berkeley. Their first date was the Big Game and despite collegiate differences, were engaged three years later at the Big Game!

Nancy and George moved to Portola Valley, where they had two more children, Carol and John. They shared 51 years of marriage, until George's death in November of 2009.

Nancy volunteered at the Allied Arts Guild, as well as Filoli. She enjoyed gardening, entertaining and traveling in Europe. She was also a devoted Nanny to her four grandchildren. Friends and family will remember Nancy for her gracious warmth, charming wit and incredibly sharp mind.

Nancy is survived by Deborah Badger Denny (married to Scott Denny) of Menlo Park, Carol Marie Badger of San Francisco, and John Cunningham Badger (married to Tine Normann-Badger) of Portola Valley, as well as her four grandchildren, Ryan Thomas Denny (married to Anita Poon Denny), Lindsay Marie Denny, Natasha Normann Badger, and Christopher Normann Badger.
