Keith E. Tomley

Keith E. Tomley, a longtime resident of Hayward, passed on Sept. 7, 2018 at the age of 94 after battling and succumbing to an infection. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Keith was born in Oakland to his parents Ethel Vargas and Keith J. Tomley. Keith had a younger brother Robert Tomley. Keith graduated Castlemont High School in Oakland and later graduated from the University of California, Berkeley.
Keith volunteered and proudly served the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II where he rose to Lieutenant while conducting 19 air missions from D-Day to the invasion of Germany. He was stationed in Attlebridge Airbase, Norfolk, England.
After receiving his degree from UC Berkeley, he served as the Director of the X-Ray department and Administrator of the Hayward Hospital founded by his grandmother Lucille Tomley. Later in his career, Keith worked and retired from for Bristol-Myers Squibb.
Keith was married to his wife, Lois Tomley, for 67 years. They met at a dance in Lake County after the war. Dancing, golf and travel with family and friends were their favorite past-times. He was regularly seen on the sidelines of his grandsons sporting events.
Keith leaves behind his loving wife; two children, son Steve Tomley and wife Joni, daughter Debbie Umphreys and husband Steve; three grandsons Kevin Tomley, Colin Umphreys, and Taylor Umphreys; four great-granddaughters Bella, Sailor, Autumn, and Sage Tomley.
