A memorial service for Helga Medearis, resident of Davis, California will be held at 10:00 AM, June 24, 2017 at the Davis United Methodist Church, 1620 Anderson Road, Davis, CA Helga Medearis passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at her home in Davis, California. Helga was born January 4, 1933 in Wiesbaden Germany. She came to the United States with her family in 1938, leaving Germany shortly before World War II. Helga grew up on the San Francisco peninsula, graduating from Burlingame High School in 1950. In 1954 she graduated from Stanford University as a Phi Beta Kappa, having previously attended Pomona College for two years. Helga received her Registered Nursing degree from University of California School of Nursing in San Francisco. She worked as a registered nurse at Stanford Hospital for more than 40 years. Later in her career she obtained her PhD from the California Institute for Transpersonal Psychology. While at Stanford, Helga met Robert Medearis, the man she was to marry, and with whom she would have three children and a cherished relationship for the next 64 years of her life. Helga was a member of the Davis United Methodist church, and had been active in numerous volunteer activities including, the Yolo Hospice, the California Nursing Alumni Association, Sacramento Region Emergency Medical Response Team, UC Davis Farm Circle and her children’s PTA’s on the San Francisco peninsula. In addition to her volunteer activities Helga was passionately engaged in variety of book groups, in both the Davis and Palo Alto communities, and an enthusiastic cook whose food delighted all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Robert, her children Kenneth (Rockville, MD), Ilsi (Winters, CA) and Dale (Alexandria, VA) their spouses Sarah Medearis, Clare Gregory, and Amy Medearis, and her grandchildren Robert Medearis, Eliza Medearis, Mia Medearis and Victoria Medearis. She was preceded in death by her sister Ilse in 2016. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Yolo Hospice.
