David Alois Fencl passed away in Palo Alto, California, on September 18, 2026, at the age of 76.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, on August 17, 1950, to Alois and Lucy Irene Fencl, David grew up in Aurora, Colorado, where he graduated from Aurora Central High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado. David served as an officer in the United States Navy for 4 years. Continuing his education, he earned a Master of Business Administration and Finance from Golden Gate University.

David made Palo Alto his home in 1983 dedicating 40 years of service to the Federal Government, including years with NASA and the TSA.

A man of deep faith and quiet service, David was an integral contributor to the Vallombrosa Center in Menlo Park, where he helped create the beautiful Grotto for Our Lady of Lourdes as well as prayer gardens. In 2007, he was invested into the Order of Malta, dedicating himself to serving the sick and the poor. David found great daily spiritual nourishment attending daily Mass at the Corpus Christi Monastery in Menlo Park, where he held deep affection for the Dominican Sisters.

David is survived by his niece, Britta Conway, and his grand-nephews, Brendan and Brice Conway. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alois and Lucy Irene Fencl, and his sister, Deborah Bushnell.
