Sherman Rogers Hall, III passed away on December 10, 2022 at his home in Santa Rosa, California. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane Watrous Hall. His surviving children are Sherman Rogers Hall, IV (Donna) and Carolyn Hall Tett. He leaves four grandchildren: Alexandra Tett, Porter Tett, Sherman Rogers Hall, V, and Lauren Hall.
Sherman was raised in San Francisco, California the son of Amy Van Horn Hall and Sherman R Hall Jr. He attended Town School for Boys and then St Ignatius High School, graduating in 1955. He attended UC Berkeley and was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Geology.
Sherman served on the staff of the Commander of the US Navy's Military Sea Transportation Service. After leaving the military, he joined Cupples Company, a small private company that represented paper manufacturers. Sherman ultimately started his own company, Phoenix Paper Company, where he continued to represent paper mills until his retirement.
Sherman was an active father coaching baseball and youth soccer as well as supporting his children in swimming and tennis. He was active in various jobs at Trinity Church in Menlo Park and a long-time member of the Menlo Circus Club. He enjoyed playing tennis, golf, skiing and particularly traveling to Africa. He was never without dogs and developed a particular fondness for Australian Shepherds. He enjoyed spending time in Healdsburg, CA and Glenbrook, NV.
Sherman was born in Portland, Oregon and returned there briefly in the early 1960s. In 1968, he relocated from Portland to Atherton where he lived for over 50 years before moving to the Fountain Grove community of Santa Rosa.
