Minnie Pearl Woods

Our beautiful mother, Minnie P. Woods, passed away on May 23, 2023, at the Callie & John Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC. She was 83 years old. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband of 40 years, Walter L. Woods, (who passed away on November 22, 2000) and loving mother of 3 children, grandmother of 3, great grandmother of 11 and great-great-grandmother of 8. Mom will be remembered for having the ability to make everyone feel loved.
Minnie was born in Anderson, South Carolina to Della and MC Owens. She graduated from Westside High School and went on to complete a Nursing training program. Mom moved to New York where she met and married Walter L. Woods in 1960 who was enlisted in the USMC. After being honorably discharged from the USMC, they moved to Menlo Park, CA.
Minnie enjoyed giving back to the community by volunteering her time with the March of Dimes, United Way and was always very active in her community and loved volunteering. She was an active member at her church in California. She participated in the San Francisco Bay to Breakers race and love it. She loved working in various Nursing roles in hospice, convalescent homes, private home care nursing and psych technician at the Veterans Administration Hospital and other medical facilities. She changed careers to work in the tech industry at the semiconductor company Intersil and at IBM Corporation for over 10 years on Cottle Road in San Jose, CA. She returned to hospice work shortly before she retired and moved to Dublin, GA in May 1999 to care for Maggie Davis. She always had a positive outlook on life. She moved back to Anderson, SC in June 2022 after a 50-year absence.
Minnie will be missed by her children Darlie O’Della Woods of Anderson, South Carolina, Deborah Woods Miller, and husband Anthony in Australia. Her middle child Deanna Elizabeth Woods passed away in May 1973 shortly after birth at Stanford Hospital. Sisters, Annie Ruth, Willie Mae, Sudie Martin, brothers, T.S. and wife Annette, Douglas, and McDuffie Owens of South Carolina. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Bianca, and Lydia and 11 great-grandchildren Dyshawn, Khalill, Destiny, Nigel, Deanna, Wendell, Samaria, James, Tatyana, Erikah, and Ahmari and 8 great great-grandchildren, Josiah, Messiah, Ayden, Zoey, Greyson, Ryleigh, Landon and Jayden and nieces and nephews. She will be missed by Terry Woods of Dublin, GA, Sarah and Carter Austin of Sacramento, CA, the Matthews family members, Terry, Michelle, Michael, Carl, Billy (RIP). She will also be missed by long time friends Lee Hawkins of Chattanooga, TN, Marion Hoper of Arizona and loved ones in California, Texas, North Carolina, New York, Florida, Italy, and Australia.
Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, MC and Della Owens, husband, Walter Lee Woods, daughter Deanna Elizabeth Woods, grandson, Wendell L. Woods, brother, Connell Owens, and sister, Ethel Owens.
